Winter arrives in Bourbonnais sideways. There is nothing between the village and the open ground east of the interstate to slow a clipper down, so the snow doesn't so much fall as travel, stacking itself into long fins across driveway aprons overnight. A is out in that dark with the blade down, cutting the first clean line of the day back to bare pavement and laying salt where the wind will try again by noon. Plowing, walkway clearing and ice control run all winter here and out toward Bradley, Manteno and Kankakee. The reward is small and entirely the point: a driveway that lets somebody leave for work without a second thought.
