Cal and A Mower

About Cal and A Mower

October at Miller Park turns the lagoon the color of cold tea, and the last mows of the year happen in that low, slanted light. Cal and A Mower runs the mowing, trimming and edging while the grass still wants it, then keeps going as the leaves come down and the cleanup takes over. When January arrives, the truck goes out instead for driveways, walks and salt, usually before the neighborhood has turned a single porch light on. There is a satisfaction in a drive scraped down to clean pavement with the berm pushed clear of the mailbox — small, but it holds all day. Bloomington and its neighbors get both halves of the year handled by the same hands.
