Big Rock Plowing Match Association

About Big Rock Plowing Match Association

Winter arrives in Big Rock with room to move: the fields lie open to the west, the wind gets a running start across them, and by two in the morning a road that was clear at midnight has a white bar laid across it. Big Rock Plowing Match Association takes its routes in that dark stretch, pushing drives and lanes back to gravel and pavement so nobody starts the morning stuck. Snow gets stacked downwind, where the next gust will not simply hand it back, and the tight spots — a gatepost, a mailbox, a septic lid — get remembered rather than discovered. Where meltwater runs and sets up again, it gets treated. Come daylight the plow is parked, and what is left is a plain black lane and a quiet farmhouse getting on with the day.
