Belvidere still keeps its big oaks — bur and white, older than the streets they shade, dropping acorns on the lawns beneath them every fall. Shade lawns are a puzzle, and solving one so it looks even under a canopy is honest work. These trees will outlast all of us, and the grass under them may as well look good in the meantime.
