The old streets west of the Public Square are lined with tall Victorians and yards cut into neat rectangles by a century of iron fence. Tim's Lawn Care Inc runs a weekly route through neighborhoods like those, mowing, trimming around the fenceposts, edging the sidewalk seam and carrying the clippings off. Same houses, same day, so a whole block seems to exhale together on a Thursday afternoon. When the season turns, that route becomes a snow route: driveways plowed, front walks shoveled, salt on the steps of houses built long before anyone thought about parking. Familiar ground, kept the way it deserves to be kept.
