East of the river, Batavia's streets climb away from the water in short, steep pitches, and snow blown off the open ground drifts deepest right at the head of a driveway. Al's Outdoor Group takes those hours — headlights on, blade down, the pavement open and treated before anyone has to back out into it. Come May the same streets turn green and the work changes hands: mowing, trimming, edges held straight along the walk. There is a plain pleasure in a drive cleared before dawn and a lawn cut in even lines, and this is an outdoor services business built around both. Batavia gets four full seasons here, and none of them get skipped.
