Route 24 runs the edge of the bluff between Bartonville and Peoria, and from up there you can watch the whole valley change color four times a year. Peoria Lawn works both ends of that cycle — mowing, trimming and edging through the green months, then plowing, shoveling and salting once the valley goes gray. Summer along the river runs humid, and the grass answers accordingly, coming back almost as fast as it is cut. Winter storms funnel straight up the valley and land on driveways facing right into them. Clearing one before dawn, or handing back a lawn with its edges laid clean, is the same satisfaction in different weather.
