Deep July in Barrington: heat shimmer standing over the blacktop, cicadas working the tree line, and lawns that will scorch by Friday if nobody is paying attention. Southern Origin keeps the mowers running through it, cutting a little higher when the sun is punishing, trimming the fence lines, edging where grass wants to creep out over concrete. Rain, when it finally comes, arrives all at once, and everything answers with a growth spurt that has to be met. At the ends of the season there are the cleanups — what winter dropped, and what October will. A green lawn in August, in this heat, in this town, does not happen on its own.
