The hills around Barrington were left here by ice — long, low moraine ridges that give the town its rolling yards and its awkward, beautiful slopes. After a June thunderstorm has come and gone, everything on those slopes grows at once. Salinas Brothers Inc. mows them, trims the tight corners a mower cannot take, edges the walks and drives, and clears out lawns and beds at the spring and fall changeovers. There is a craft to cutting a hillside so the lines still look right from the street. When the sun comes back out and the whole yard is even and steaming a little, that is the good part of the day.
