Skilled Laborers

About Skilled Laborers

Barren Township was named for its brush and thin early settlement, yet the Big Muddy River winds through it and water fills a large share of its map. Winter in this corner of Franklin County rarely brings a soft powder; it arrives as sleet ticking on the windows near midnight and wet snow that packs hard by morning. Skilled Laborers handles snow removal here, clearing the lane, the drive, and the path to the back door so a truck can pull out and a boot finds solid footing. The work is plain and physical, matched to heavy southern Illinois snow rather than fluff. When it is done, the way to the road lies open again.
