Countryside construction and snow removal

About Countryside construction and snow removal

Snow comes to Amboy on a northwest wind with nothing in the Green River lowland to slow it down, so it doesn't so much fall as travel. Countryside construction and snow removal meets it with plowing, shoveling and ice control, working drives and lots while the town is still dark and the old depot stands alone under its lamp. There is a real satisfaction in the first pass — the blade curling a clean white wall to the side, blacktop appearing behind it like something remembered. Walks get cleared down to the surface, and salt goes where the melt will refreeze before morning. By the time Amboy wakes up, the day is already possible.
