Evenings come early in a Teton Valley winter, porch lights blinking on along Victor's residential streets while the last plow pass of the day still needs making. PEI works those quieter hours, clearing driveways and walkways after the day's snowfall has finished piling up, so a family isn't shoveling by headlamp before an early morning drive over the pass. The valley holds a hush once the wind drops at dusk, snow squeaking underfoot, the Teton River running dark and half-frozen a few blocks off. It's careful, close-in work, a walkway cleared to the doorstep, a driveway opened corner to corner, done while most of the street is still deciding whether to come outside. There is a plain kind of usefulness in it, the difference between a house that's stuck for the night and one that isn't.
