East Summit Excavating spends its summers moving ground — pads leveled, foundations cut, ditches dug across the farmland that spreads out from Rigby toward the river bottoms. When the fields lock up hard and the same equipment swaps to plows, the crew works the section roads and driveways it knows from digging them, out before sunrise while frost sits thick on the fence posts. Rigby's winters arrive low and gray off the plain, snow filling the roads between town and the river without much warning. A cleared lane between two buried fields is a small thing to see from the highway, but it's the whole job on a morning like that.
