Before the frost fog lifts off the Henry's Fork bottoms, Carlson Excavation's trucks are already idling on the bench above Rexburg, engines ticking in air cold enough to catch in the throat. This is a business built on moving ground — foundations cut, lots graded, dirt hauled — and when the valley locks up hard, that same crew turns its blades to the season's other work, clearing driveways and lots along Main Street and the roads east toward the university before the town wakes. Sagebrush hills rim the horizon where wheat stubble gives way to snow, and by the time the eastern sky pinks up behind the Tetons, the lots they've touched are already down to bare asphalt. It's plain work, done early and done in the cold, so the rest of Rexburg can get moving.
