Prairie Lawn & Snow

About Prairie Lawn & Snow

The first real cold of the year comes down off the Selkirks and settles over Prairie Avenue overnight, so that October lawns are silver at seven and green again by nine. Prairie Lawn & Snow does its best work in that window — the last cuts of the season, taken a little lower, and the cleanup that takes every leaf and needle off the grass before the wet weeks arrive. Aeration and overseeding go in while the soil still holds warmth, which is the whole secret of a north Idaho spring. Summer is steadier: mow, trim, keep the weeds from taking the thin spots along the driveway. A yard put away properly in fall is a yard that comes back early, and out on the prairie that head start is worth a great deal.
