The Rathdrum Prairie stretches flat and wide east of Post Falls, open farmland and newer subdivisions built on ground that used to be nothing but grain fields, and wind across that open prairie can pack a modest snowfall into drifts far deeper than the storm total would suggest. Excavating Solutions runs heavy equipment built for exactly that kind of ground, clearing long rural driveways and subdivision access roads where a standard truck plow would bog down in a wind-packed drift. The same machines that move dirt and grade lots in the warmer months get fitted with plow blades once the prairie wind turns a snowfall into something closer to a small dune. Clearing those drifts often takes more than one pass, since the wind rebuilds a driveway's worst spots almost as fast as the first pass clears them. It is open, exposed work, done on ground where the wind decides as much about a storm as the snow total ever does.
