From most anywhere in the Pocatello valley, the Bannock Range fills the skyline, and on a clear evening after a full day of plowing, the last light catches those peaks white while the streets below have already gone dark and cold for the night. Rocky Mountain Service runs its routes against that backdrop, clearing residential and small commercial properties through the day and often finishing a storm's last stretch of driveways after the sun is already down behind the range. Working into the evening means headlights doing as much work as daylight, against a colder, harder-packed snow than the same storm left behind that morning. The crew keeps a running list through a big system, hitting the properties that called first and circling back to anyone whose driveway drifted back in during the afternoon. By the time that mountain skyline goes fully dark, the day's route is usually closed out, one driveway at a time, across whatever part of the valley the storm hit hardest.
