The streets around Lakeview Park, on Nampa's older north side, were planted with maples long before anyone thought to plant much else, and by January those trees are bare skeletons holding thin lines of snow along every branch above the little park lake. Maple Landscaping works those same blocks, clearing driveways underneath while the maples overhead do nothing but stand there, patient and stripped down for the season. There's something grounding about servicing a street you can recognize by its trees alone, even buried in white - the shape of the canopy tells you exactly which block you're on before you read a single house number. The crew clears corner to corner, careful of the root heaves that decades of maple roots have pushed up through some of that old sidewalk concrete. By the time the sun climbs high enough to throw tree-branch shadows across clean pavement, the block looks the way it does every winter: bare limbs above, bare concrete below.
