In July a White City lawn is best met at six in the morning, when the dew is still on it and the day has not yet turned hard and bright. Green Feet Lawn Care keeps that hour, moving through the cottonwood shade between houses with mower, trimmer and edger, finishing before the heat sets its weight down on the valley. The name fits the goal: grass thick enough and soft enough that a kid runs out across it barefoot without thinking. Trimming around the mailbox post, a clean sweep of clippings off the concrete, the strip along the fence taken down to match — small things that add up to a yard somebody is glad to come home to. When the canyon breeze comes down the benches in the evening, it moves over a lawn that has been tended that morning.
