Dad's Snow Removal

About Dad's Snow Removal

Around the zoo grounds on the east side of town, the streets go still before seven on a winter morning — porch lights left on, the animals quiet under snow, nobody moving but the plow trucks. Dad's Snow Removal treats every driveway on the route like the one out front of its own house, which in a town this size, it usually is somebody's actual neighbor. Idaho Falls winter doesn't announce itself so much as arrive overnight, an inch of fresh snow turning into a foot while the whole block sleeps, and it has to be gone before the first car needs to back out for work. A clear path to the door, salt down the front steps, a scraped driveway waiting under the porch light — it's a small promise kept every morning it snows. Nobody's awake to see the truck come through, but everybody notices the driveway by breakfast.
