East of Hayden the ground stops pretending to be prairie and tilts up toward Canfield Mountain, where the ponderosa take over and every yard below them inherits a share of needles. LNW Landscaping works those in-between lots — part lawn, part forest floor — cutting grass through the green months and then, come the cold snap in October, hauling out the leaves and needles that would otherwise mat down and smother the turf all winter. Autumn here arrives fast: one clear night drops the temperature, and by morning the maples along the side streets have let go all at once. Getting a property raked out and open before the first hard freeze is the whole point, and there is a particular pleasure in standing back from a yard that is finally clear, edges cut, ready to sleep. Come spring, it wakes up better for it.
