Idaho County's courthouse sits at the center of Grangeville, its lawn and steps the first thing plowed most mornings before the rest of downtown even opens. TJ Excavation & Utilities works those municipal streets and the driveways branching off them, clearing a grid of blocks built when the prairie town was still finding its shape. Storms here hit the streets fast since the elevation holds cold longer than the lower country to the west, so a morning route often starts before the sky has fully lightened over the courthouse dome. Streets get plowed curb to curb, the courthouse walk cleared step by step, and residential driveways nearby pushed back to the garage before anyone needs to leave for work. Once the flag goes up outside the courthouse, the streets around it already look like any ordinary Camas Prairie morning, storm or no storm.
