Wind off the open Snake River plain has nothing to slow it down before it reaches Fruitland's farm ground, and a storm here tends to arrive sideways more often than straight down. Viking Construction plows the driveways and yard aprons on properties built to take that wind, where a drift can pile against a machine shed door faster than against a house. Getting equipment access clear matters as much as the driveway itself on a working farmstead, so the truck works the yard in a wide loop, shed doors first, then the drive back out to the road. Loose snow gets pushed well off to the side rather than left in a ridge the next gust can just refill. Out on this stretch of flat ground, a cleared path to the shed by morning is what lets the rest of the day's work start on time.
