About Disaster Response

Cross the bridge out of Fruitland toward Payette and the Snake River runs wide and grey beneath a skin of shore ice most winter mornings. Disaster Response clears the driveways and approaches nearest that crossing, where river-bottom cold settles heavier than it does further back from the water. A storm that leaves an inch on the highway can leave three times that down near the water's edge, so those properties get checked first on any run. Driveways are plowed back from the road, walkways broken free of ice, and any drainage near a low spot cleared so meltwater has somewhere to go once the sun comes back out. Traffic crossing back into Fruitland finds those river-bottom driveways already open, whatever the bridge itself still has to deal with.
