TLC Landscape knows the Boise River Greenbelt in every season, and in the thin early light of a winter morning, the cottonwoods along it stand bare and rimed while the paved path underneath can turn to a sheet of ice overnight. The crew's summer work of edging beds and laying sod gives way, this time of year, to clearing the driveways and walks of the same properties that back up to that path, the ones with a view of the river from the yard. There is a habit that carries over from landscaping into plowing: a driveway edge kept as clean in January as a lawn edge is in June. Up where the foothills rise above the neighborhoods, the snow holds longer and whiter than it does down along the river, and the route stretches to cover both. By the time the sun clears the ridge and the Greenbelt fills with its usual morning walkers, the driveways on this route are already bare.
