There is a stretch of July when the grass along the sidewalk is thick enough that kids cut across it barefoot on the way home, and that is the standard worth mowing to. Barefoot Lawns handles the weekly cutting in town — mowing, string trimming along foundations, mailbox posts and alley fences, edging the sidewalks back to a straight line. Summer heat can come with thunder, so cuts get taken when the grass is dry and the ground will still hold a wheel. Cleanups run at both ends of the year, with leaves cleared in the fall before the first snowfall flattens them into the turf. Grass you would walk on without shoes — that is the whole idea, and it is a good one.
