Drive the farm lanes out toward Moreland in early spring and the poplar windbreaks are still bare, standing in rows like fence posts waiting for the year to start. Idaho Classic Landscaping starts its year there too, raking winter out of Blackfoot lawns — matted thatch, gravel thrown by the plows, the flattened grass along every drive. A power rake and a first cut change a yard almost violently for the better, and a feeding right behind it sets the color for months. From then on it is the steady rhythm of mowing, trimming and edging as the valley greens up field by field. Watching a tired March lawn turn into a May lawn is reason enough to keep doing this.
