Eddie's lawn service spends its summer keeping Blackfoot's yards trimmed along the irrigation ditches, and when the mowers go into storage for the season, the plow blade comes out instead. The same eye that lines up a mowing pattern across a front lawn lines up a plow pass across a driveway, back and forth until the concrete shows through clean. West of town, past the hay fields running toward the Snake River, the light goes flat and gray early in December, and this crew is often still out at dusk, finishing one more drive before dark. There's a rhythm to it that isn't so different from cutting grass: work the edges first, then the middle, then check the corners twice. By the time full dark falls over Bingham County, the driveways on this route are done for the night, ready for whatever the morning commute needs.
