About Don Schmitz & Sons Inc

When a storm moves across Black Hawk County, the open ground around Washburn gives the wind room to run, and snow piles up fast in lanes and drives. Don Schmitz & Sons Inc clears it away, plowing out driveways and pushing back the banks so cars can reach the road. There's a quiet pride in the hours before sunrise: headlights on the blade, the town still asleep, a drive opening up foot by foot. By the time the coffee is poured, the way out is clear and the snow rests in tidy ridges along the edges.
