Tipton's courthouse sits square in the middle of town with its dome catching whatever light there is on a gray Cedar County morning, the streets around it laid out in the same tidy grid they've held since the square was platted. Raptor Turf Landscaping clears that ring of streets first, then works out through the residential blocks toward Big Rock Creek on the edge of town, where the ground dips just enough to hold snow a little longer than the square does. Wind off the open farmland east of town tends to load one side of Main Street heavier than the other, depending on which way a storm tracked in. The creek bottom stays shaded well into the afternoon most winter days, ice building up along its banks even as the streets above it clear. The square gets cleared first, the way it probably always has, and the rest of town follows from there.
