About S&S Lawn & Property Service

On the newer streets that have filled in around Solon's school in the years since the town started drawing families out from Iowa City, the driveways sit close together and the yards are still young enough that there's not much tree cover to slow a storm down before it reaches the ground. S&S Lawn & Property Service runs those subdivision streets in the afternoon and evening, timing the work around the school day so a driveway is open again by the time the buses have made their rounds and families are pulling back in for the night. An open subdivision catches wind differently than the timbered lots outside town, so the drifting here tends to build against garage doors and mailboxes rather than spreading evenly across a yard. A block of driveways cleared in sequence, each one opened just as the next car pulls up the street, is ordinary work made a little satisfying by the timing of it. This ground is newer than most of what surrounds Solon, and it asks for a different kind of route than the timber and gravel roads on the other side of town.
