Solon's Main Street still runs brick under the snow, a short stretch of storefronts that has anchored the town since long before the subdivisions started filling in on the edges toward Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Krafka Lawn & Landscape clears that stretch first most mornings — the sidewalks in front of the shops, the on-street parking, the crosswalks where the brick gets slick under a thin layer of packed snow long after the asphalt around it has thawed clear. Brick holds cold differently than blacktop, so what looks done on Main Street at seven can need a second pass by nine once the morning sun has worked on the ordinary streets but left the shaded brick untouched.
