Southlawn Cemetery

About Southlawn Cemetery

Late September brings a warm south wind across Seymour, rattling the dry cornstalks and lifting dust from the gravel roads at harvest time. Southlawn Cemetery stays in order through it all, the grass mowed short and the rows kept straight under a wide prairie sky. Trimming hugs the base of each marker, and fallen twigs and leaves are gathered so the ground looks swept. Toward evening the light turns the color of honey and settles over the stones. For a town like Seymour, this steady lawn care is one way of saying that no one here is forgotten.
