Jeff's Lawn and Snow Care

About Jeff's Lawn and Snow Care

Out on the Pocahontas County tableland, Rolfe keeps its own weather. The section roads run straight to the horizon, the elevator stands up over the rooftops, and there is nothing between town and the wind but a fence line. Jeff's Lawn and Snow Care spends the green months on those yards — mowing, trimming, and the crisp edge along a walk that makes a whole corner lot look tended — and the cold ones on drives and sidewalks, opened before the first pickup heads for the highway. There is a plain kind of pride in that: a clean pass at dawn, the concrete dark and bare, a path to the door for whoever is coming. By April the timber along the river east of town leafs out, the yards come back, and the mowing starts over again.
