The Tow Co knows those icy spots as well as anyone in Lyon County, and turns that same eye to clearing shoulders and lots along the highway before the ice gets the upper hand. From the highway frontage the crew moves in to driveways on the residential streets nearer the Rock River, working block by block until town itself sits clear. Out toward Larchwood and Little Rock, the open road stays a watch point long after Rock Rapids itself has gone quiet for the night. Traffic picks back up onto a highway bare in from every direction, shoulders and ditches cleared the length of it.
