About Willow Lawn Cemetery

Willows lean over the Cedar River as it slides past Plainfield, and in the soft green of a May morning their branches trail in the current like loosened hair. Willow Lawn Cemetery carries the name of that gentle tree, and its grounds are kept with the same easy grace. Fresh-cut grass lies even between the rows, and trimming circles each stone so the carved names read plainly. Robins work the damp turf as the dew burns off. It is lawn care given as a kind of tenderness, and the families of this Bremer County town can feel it when they walk in.
