Herb's Backhoe

About Herb's Backhoe

Where Perry's streets run out against open Dallas County fields, drifts pile up higher and harder than anywhere closer to downtown, snow shoved by wind with nothing in its way until it hits the first row of houses. Herb's Backhoe brings equipment built for moving real weight to that edge of town, clearing driveways and lot entrances that a smaller blade would just push snow around rather than through. Grain trucks and farm equipment still move along these outer streets even in the dead of winter, so keeping them open carries a little more urgency than a quiet residential block downtown. The backhoe works low and steady, scraping down to pavement in places where an ordinary plow would leave a packed layer behind for the next thaw to deal with. By the end of a storm, the boundary between town and open field is marked again by a clean, sharp edge of cleared ground.
