There isn't much traffic on New Sharon's Main Street even on a clear day, so after an overnight snow the first tire tracks through town are usually the plow's. Fleener Lawn Care runs that early route, clearing sidewalks and driveways while most of the town is still waking up, working past the church steeple visible from nearly anywhere in New Sharon. Storms out of the west often lose some of their punch crossing into Mahaska County, leaving New Sharon with a lighter snow than towns further north, but a light snow packed down by overnight cold can still glaze into ice if it isn't moved before sunrise. The crew works its way down each property to bare footing and gets salt spread ahead of that freeze, giving a driveway near Main Street no less attention than one out past the ballfield. By the time Main Street sees its first real traffic, the tracks left behind aren't the plow's anymore.
