Mt. Pleasant Mowers

About Mt. Pleasant Mowers

The name promises a rise of ground and a pleasant view, and on the quiet blocks north of the square you can still see the argument for it: shade trees older than the houses, deep front yards running clear down to the curb. Mt. Pleasant Mowers keeps those yards on a schedule through the loud green middle of June, when one humid southeast Iowa week can turn a lawn shaggy between visits. Straight lines across the front, careful passes around the flowerbeds and the air conditioner, trimmed tight to the porch skirt, walks swept off before the trailer gate goes up. There is a real satisfaction in the last look back — stripes lying even, the edge along the sidewalk cut clean enough to see from the street. Cleanup in the raw weeks of March, mowing straight through the season, and the leaves off before the ground goes hard.
