Fog still sits low over West Lake Okoboji when the first plow blade drops in Milford, well before the ice fishermen haul their shanties out for the day. Wind off the open prairie doesn't so much drop snow here as sculpt it, banking drifts against fence lines and porch steps that a plain measurement of inches never quite explains. Blue Water Prairie Landscape reads those drifts the way a farmer reads a field, clearing driveways and walkways along the lake road and the section-line gravel alike before the town wakes to it. There's a plainer satisfaction than people expect in a walk scraped down to bare concrete while the grass beside it is still rimmed white, in tire tracks that are the first mark on a fresh morning. By the time frost lifts off the marina docks, the route back into town is open end to end.
