About Raveling, Inc.

Out on the northwest Iowa prairie, the wind reaches Melvin before anything else does, sweeping snow off the open fields and laying it in long ridges across driveways and lanes. Raveling, Inc. meets that wind with snow removal, cutting through the drifts so cars can roll out onto gravel and blacktop again. On land this flat a drift can rebuild itself by noon, so the work rewards patience: one more pass, one squared-off shoulder, one clear mouth onto the road. There is quiet pride in that straight dark line through the white, plain to see from the kitchen window while the coffee is still hot. When the sky finally empties and the low winter sun flares across the snowfields, Melvin is already dug out and moving.
