About Schmillen Services

While the elevator lots get the big equipment, the residential streets around Marcus's few blocks of houses get a quieter kind of attention from Schmillen Services — sidewalks shoveled by hand where a machine would tear up a lawn edge, steps salted before anyone's had a chance to slip. Cherokee County winters bring a particular late-afternoon ice, the kind that forms after a day's melt refreezes just as the light goes flat and gray. The crew times its second pass for exactly that window, breaking up ice before it can set hard overnight. It's careful, unhurried work in a town where everyone recognizes the truck. A walk cleared twice in one day, morning and evening, is a small thing, but it's the kind of small thing a town this size actually notices.
