Gil's Lawn Care

About Gil's Lawn Care

A couple of miles north of town the old lime kilns stand in the grass beside the highway, limestone stacked by people who knew that stone and season are patient things. Gil's Lawn Care works that same eastern Iowa ground, where the soil runs thin over rock in places and a lawn earns every inch of green it puts up. September is the month that rewards the effort: the heat finally lets go, the light comes in low and gold across the fields, and a freshly mowed yard holds its shape for days. The routine is steady rather than showy — cutting at a height the turf can live with, trimming the corners a mower can't reach, edging the walk back to a clean line and clearing the clippings when the job is done. What's left at the end of an afternoon is a Maquoketa yard that looks settled and cared for, right up to the last mow before the frost.
