About West Lawn Cemetery

October comes to Lehigh in rust and gold, the oaks in the ravines letting go of their leaves one gust at a time. On West Lawn's grounds the last mowings before frost keep the grass short, and fallen leaves are cleared from the markers so the stones show bright against the brown. Edging tucks in along the borders of each plot, patient and close. A small Webster County town remembers its own in this quiet way, through hands that keep the ground in order. As the afternoon goes long and amber, the rows lie tidy and at rest for winter.
