Le Mars has the kind of older residential blocks where the real work often happens behind the houses rather than in front of them — narrow alleys, backyard parking pads, a side door that's the one everybody actually uses in winter — and Vic's Backyard Services works exactly that overlooked ground. A front walk gets shoveled by plenty of people; the alley behind it, and the little pad where a car actually sits overnight, tends to get forgotten until it's a sheet of packed ice. Working those in-between spaces after supper, once the day's traffic has thinned out and the last plow has already passed on the main streets, means clearing snow that would otherwise sit untouched until it turns to ice under repeated footsteps.
