Wayne's Lawn and Service

About Wayne's Lawn and Service

Northwest Iowa hides nothing: in Pocahontas County the land lies flat and open, the grain elevator at Laurens shows from miles out, and the wind crosses the section roads with nothing to slow it. Wayne's Lawn and Service mows in that big weather — lawns that dry fast in August, green up hard after a thunderstorm, and take the full brunt of a prairie summer. Cutting here means keeping the height up when it turns hot and dry, then staying ahead of the grass entirely in the weeks after rain. Trimming and edging finish it, tight along foundations, gravel drives and the fence lines that mark where a yard ends and a field begins. Under that much sky, a mowed lawn reads like a small deliberate square of order, and that is a good thing to leave behind.
