Finco Tree and Wood Service

About Finco Tree and Wood Service

Some winter nights the snow comes down on Kelley with no wind at all, falling soft and straight over the open Story County fields a few miles south of Ames until the whole town goes hushed. Finco Tree and Wood Service is a tree and wood outfit by trade, and when the season turns it puts those working hands to the driveways and walks of town. Before the alarm clocks ring, a dark ribbon of pavement runs from garage door to street, the snow stacked in tidy shoulders along either side. Steps get cleared, the path to the mailbox opens, and the quiet holds except for the low working sound of a blade. Kelley wakes to the same white stillness, with the road now within reach.
