Midwest Land Specialists, LLC spends the building season grading the raw ground that becomes Johnston's newest cul-de-sacs, and by the time the first houses are finished and sold, the same crew is often back out clearing the same streets of snow instead of mud. A subdivision under construction and one just finished look almost the same in a hard January storm — bare young trees, unlandscaped yards, driveways still sharp-edged from fresh concrete — and both need the same single pass to keep them usable. New streets off NW 62nd and the roads still filling in near the edge of town tend to drift differently than the older, tree-lined blocks closer to Merle Hay Road, more exposed until the new landscaping fills in over a few more years. The company that shaped the ground under these streets in July is, in January, the one making sure the same streets stay passable to the door. It's the same dirt, the same lots, a different season's work on top of it.
