About Iowa River Rough Cut

Iowa Falls earned its nickname, the Scenic City, from the limestone bluffs that rise along the Iowa River right through the middle of town, and those same bluffs make for some of the roughest, most uneven ground in Hardin County when a storm blows through. Iowa River Rough Cut works the driveways and access roads carved into that terrain, where a straight blade pass is rarely enough and every property seems to have its own grade, ledge, or blind curve to work around. Downtown, where the old storefronts sit close to the water, the crew clears sidewalks along streets that catch river fog well into the morning even after the sun clears the bluff line. Out past the edge of town, where the land opens into farm ground before pulling back down toward the river again near Pine Lake, driveways run long and exposed to whatever wind comes off the open fields. Clearing that mix of terrain — tight riverside lots and long open lanes both — is what the work actually looks like here most winters.
