Morning in Huxley starts with bicycles — the High Trestle Trail runs right through town, and by seven the crushed limestone is busy while the yards on either side are still silver with dew. ETCH Outdoor Living begins the day in that hour, when a mower leaves a dark track through the wet and every single pass shows. Lawn care here means the whole arc of the year: mowing and string trimming, edging along walks and drives, fertilization and weed control, aeration and overseeding in the cool of autumn, and the cleanups that open and close the season. Set on the open ground between Ames and the north edge of the metro, Huxley's blocks are young and bright, and a lawn kept level and green is most of what a house says to the street. Out to Slater, Kelley, Sheldahl and Cambridge, the standard travels with the truck — even color, honest lines, nothing left behind but the smell of cut grass.
